چکیده

Real-world phenomena have traditionally been modelled in a GIS in two and three dimensions. However, powerful insights can be gained by the integration of additional non-spatial dimensions, such as time and scale, in a higher dimensional spatial model. While this theory is conceptually sound, there is a lack of understanding of its consequences when applied to real world geographic information. In this paperwe therefore analyse these consequences, aswell as the techniques that are necessary in order to extractmeaningful 2D/3D information from it, which can be used with existing algorithms and software.

Developing 3 dimensional model for estimation of acoustic power in urban pathways in geo-spatial information system framework

Around the word, traffic growth is causing growing air and noise pollution. Noise levels in a given area are affected by traffic on the streets as well as effective factors, including existing infrastructure and industrial centers, and so on. The purpose of this research is to model and estimate the amount of acoustic emission in the streets of Tehran's third district, using the 3D spatial info...

Edge Extraction Based on Aperture Synthesis in Optical Scanning Holography

Optical scanning holography (OSH) is an incoherent digital holography technique, with wide applications such as optical microscopy, remote sensing etc [1]. It uses a Fresnel zone plate (FZP) to record the volume information of an object by two-dimensional (2D) raster scanning. For optical image processing, it is highly desirable that the edge information can be extracted via reconstruction. Var...

Modeling and manipulating spacetime objects in a true 4D model

The concept of spacetime has long been used in physics to refer to models that integrate 3D space and time as a single 4D continuum. We argue in this paper that it is also advantageous to use this concept in a practical geographic context by realizing a true 4D model, where time is modeled and implemented as a dimension in the same manner as the three spatial dimensions. Within this paper we fo...

Navigation and Interaction in Graph Visualizations

Graphs are widely utilized in many fields and several applications require their visualization. Graph visualization is based on techniques for graph drawing, interaction and navigation in such a way that helps the user in finding and manipulating information efficiently. These techniques, which can be two or three-dimensional, depending on the spatial metaphor used to represent the graph, can b...

Four-dimensional spatial reasoning in humans.

Human subjects practiced navigation in a virtual, computer-generated maze that contained 4 spatial dimensions rather than the usual 3. The subjects were able to learn the spatial geometry of the 4-dimensional maze as measured by their ability to perform path integration, a standard test of spatial ability. They were able to travel down a winding corridor to its end and then point back accuratel...
